OTHER KINDS OF DREAMS (Collaborative Theatre / Performance Piece)

For: Dance (Alexander Brown), Text (Amber McZeal), and Sound (Sharmi Basu)

This piece is an exquisite program of Oakland’s finest afrological musicians and diasporic griots for the FLIGHT DECK stage. The dynamic formations of creative storytellers using voices, bodies, and electronic and indigenous instruments alike will put a capstone on the journey of the festival and imprint the gift of ‘organization’ on our souls. OTHER KINDS OF DREAMS is a reflection on Black and POC women’s organizational strategies and transformational potency in a book authored by Julia Oparah (neè Sudbury).

This performance within the journey of the ‘festival of stories’ is an opportunity to reflect on the wisdom that balance brings to our progressive movements. It is a creative reflection on the manifestation potential of the imagination, bridging the political, the social and the collective dream. This interpretation of this particular vision will be imagined and produced by Amber McZeal, Sharmi Basu, and Alexander Brown.
